Mercator Ludo 50w 4000K LED Slim Flood Light Black - Galaxy ...                                                 LED Floodlights

Whether you want to light up a feature, a back garden or a large industrial space LED Floodlights are a great option.  They are fully integrated so there are no bulbs to change which allows the fitting to stay sealed and therefore have better IP ratings (waterproof ratings).  LED Floods have a slimmer sleek design compared to old floodlights and LED’s switch on instantly so there is no waiting for them to warm up unlike the mercury vapour or metal halide globes.

  • They are up to 90% more energy efficient than a halogen equivalent.
  • They operate reliably in cold temperatures
  • They are resistant to shock or vibration.
  • Their long lifespan reduces maintenance, making them a good choice for difficult-to‑reach areas.

In general, domestic floodlights need to illuminate a relatively small area and are often used for decorative as well as security purposes. Using a floodlight that is too bright in a built-up area is likely to cause a disturbance to neighbours.

Industrial spaces are usually much larger and need more powerful floodlights to fully illuminate them. Industrial floodlights are used for practical purposes such as to provide reliable security and also to ensure that employees can work safely out of daylight hours.

Lumens are used to measure a light’s brightness.  The higher the lumen the brighter the light.  When choosing a floodlight, the larger the space the more lumens you will require depending on what you are trying to achieve.  The beam angle is the angle at which the light is distributed, the wider the angle, the more area is covered by light.

The colour of the light (colour temperature) is measured in Kelvins (k) from a warm light to a cool light.  The higher the number of Kelvin the cooler the light. If you are choosing floodlights to illuminate garden features you may want to choose a warmer, more welcoming colour temperature with a low Kelvin rating, such as a warm white (3000k). A cooler white (6000k) with a higher Kelvin rating provides a crisper light, ideal for practical or security purposes.

The IP rating (waterproof) of the light is also very important. IP65 means that the floodlight is protected against water sprays from all angles.
